Continuing in the tradition of Mallion, Mendon is quite heavier than its Stradivarius equivalent. With a steel frame, the prototype weighs in at approximately 45 lbs (21kg).

The fingerboard, top and back are sculpted from the traditional woods, but the neck is hammered sheet steel, pounded into a proper curvature with a cross peen hammer. Needing a more massive roll bar to correlate with the size of the instrument, I designed it to be, not solid, but more three-dimensional and made from several pieces of steel, following the shape of the bridge.

Mendon can be held upright by balancing the instrument in the traditional sense against the body of the player, or by a few other methods. The adjustable leg at the bottom of the instrument is tapered, so that it can be driven into the ground, or into a manufactured base which I kindly refer to as the Gravitational Domination Base. Either way, the instrument can be free-standing.
